Child Protection

Please note that while Mrs Kelly is off on Maternity Leave, Mrs McCarragher will take over as Deputy Designated Teacher for Child Protection.

Drumsallen Primary School has a pastoral responsibility towards the children and a self protection/child protection programme is integrated into the curriculum. We are continually evaluating our pastoral care policy to determine ways of improving the quality of provision for the benefits of all children, teachers and ancillary staff.

Our Child Protection Policy seeks to protect vulnerable children by ensuring that teachers have guidance on the detection and inter agency management of situations where abuse or neglect is evident or suspect. The policy aims to inform and advise ancillary staff who have pupil contact to be constantly on the alert for early signs of child abuse and neglect and that it is their duty to inform the principal (Mrs Williamson) or the designated teacher for Child Protection (Mrs Kelly). They in turn have a legal responsibility to follow the correct procedures as laid down in the SELB guidelines.

This pastoral dimension is the on going work of fostering trust and development of partnership with parents. Parents are welcome to express their concerns in accordance with the following procedure:-

Stage Action
1 Contact class teacher
2 Contact designated teacher for Child Protection
3 Contact the Chairman of Board of Governors (Mr A. Foster)

At any time the Social Services (Tel. 028 3752 2262) and the local PSNI Unit, (Tel. 028 3752 3311) may be contacted.
