Primary 1,2 & 3

Primary 1, Primary 2 and Primary 3

Mrs Williamson teaches in the Foundation Stage with Mrs McClatchey, who is the principal release. As Mrs Williamson is currently on secondment, Mrs McClatchey is the class teacher.

Our learning environment is bright, stimulating and welcoming, displaying all aspects of the children’s work. Resources are easily accessible to the children and they are encouraged to make their own choices.  We have an interactive whiteboard, a PC and 4 laptops available to enhance the children’s learning.

We use the topic based approach and topics take into account the interests of the children.  This year our topics are The Little Red Hen, The Circus, Castles, Jack and the Beanstalk and The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch.

The children are encouraged to develop a love of books and a disposition to read. Children have opportunities to listen to a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction, poetry and rhymes.  They regularly read as a whole class, in small groups and individually in shared and modelled reading sessions.

In Numeracy lessons, the children will develop their skills in processes, number, measures, shape and space and sorting patterns and relationships. These skills will be taught through practical activities and then recorded on paper when children are more secure with concepts.

Reception children learn through a play-based approach and their activities are planned using the pre-school guidance.

As the children work with others in different groupings: pairs, small groups and whole class, they learn to respect each other’s views and opinions reaching agreement through negotiation and compromise.
